Background Remover
Cut the background out of any photo, in your browser. Full resolution, no watermark, no signup — and the image is never uploaded. Refine the edge, brush by hand, drop in a new background.
Drop a photo to cut out
JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, or BMP. The cutout runs on your device — the picture is never uploaded.
Drop, choose, or paste — up to 10 images.
Strips the old background’s colour out of soft edges, so hair does not carry a halo onto a new backdrop.
Drop shadow
Needs a background behind the subject.
The cutout model downloads once and then runs offline in your browser.
A cutout that survives a change of background
Most background removers stop at a mask. Paste the result onto a white page and you see what they missed: stair-stepped edges where the mask was upscaled, hair chopped into clumps, and a faint rim of the old background around everything. This tool runs three more steps after the model. A guided filter pulls the mask back onto the real edges in the photograph, so strands come back instead of being averaged away. Edge controls let you shrink or soften the boundary by a pixel where the model was generous. And colour decontamination works out what was behind each semi-transparent pixel and subtracts it, which is the step that stops hair carrying a grey halo onto a new backdrop.
All of it runs in your tab. The neural network downloads once, then the work happens on your own machine — so there is no upload, no queue, no credit counter, and no version of your photo sitting on someone else’s disk. Send the cutout on to the Image Compressor to shrink it for the web, or the Favicon Generator if what you cut out was a logo.
The model downloads once and then does the work in your tab. No upload, no queue, no account, and it keeps working offline.
A guided filter pulls the mask back onto real image edges to recover hair and fur, and colour decontamination strips the old background out of soft pixels.
Restore and erase brushes with soft falloff, undo and redo, plus edge position, softness, and detail sliders that update instantly.
Original resolution up to 4096px, PNG or WebP with transparency, new backgrounds and shadows, and a ZIP for a batch.
How to remove a background
- 1
Drop a photo
JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, or BMP — drag it in, choose a file, or paste from the clipboard. The first image also downloads the model.
- 2
Let it find the subject
The cutout appears on a checkerboard so you can see exactly what is transparent. Hit Compare to slide between the original and the result.
- 3
Tune the edge
Detail recovery for hair, Edge position to shrink off a fringe, Softness to blend, Colour cleanup to kill the halo. Every slider re-renders straight away.
- 4
Brush out what is left
Pick restore or erase, set a size and strength, and paint. Undo and redo are there, and brush strokes survive later slider changes.
- 5
Add a background and download
Keep it transparent, or drop in a colour, gradient, blur, or your own image, with an optional shadow. Save PNG, WebP, or JPEG — one file or a ZIP.
